John Weerts

John joined the BVA board in 2020.

John Weerts joined Sowalfin in 2017 as legal / European affairs advisor. In such capacity, he became mainly involved in the coordination/supervision of the Walloon investment companies, commonly known as “Invests”, which provide financial solutions (debt and equity) to SMEs active in Wallonia, adapted to different key phases of business life: start-up, early/later stage, growth, M&A operations, innovation and export/ internationalization. Besides the Invests’ financing activities, he plays a strong part in the implementation of ESIF financial instruments in Wallonia as well as in the follow-up and intensification of partnerships between SOWALFIN and European Investment Fund.

Before joining SOWALFIN, John gained experience as a Restructuring & Insolvency lawyer at DLA Piper UK LLP (Brussels office) and started professionally at Arendt & Medernach in its Private Equity & Real Estate team (Luxembourg office).

John holds a Law degree of ULiege and obtained an Advanced Master in European Law of the Institute for European Studies (Free University of Brussels).
